Introduction to Hazard Communication
Hazard communication is the process of informing workers and employers about the hazards associated with chemicals in the workplace and how to work safely with them. This training is designed to teach workers how to recognize and respond to workplace hazards related to hazardous chemicals.
The training course typically covers the following topics:
1. Hazardous chemicals: Workers are taught to identify and understand the properties of hazardous chemicals, including the physical and health hazards associated with them.
2. Hazard communication program: Workers are trained on the employer’s hazard communication program, including how to access safety data sheets (SDSs) and labels for hazardous chemicals, and how to use this information to work safely with them.
3. Labeling requirements: Workers are taught to read and interpret chemical labels, including pictograms, signal words, and hazard statements.
4. SDSs: Workers learn how to access and interpret SDSs, which provide detailed information about the hazards associated with chemicals and how to work safely with them.
5. Personal protective equipment (PPE): Workers are trained on the appropriate use of PPE when working with hazardous chemicals, including the proper selection, use, and maintenance of PPE.
6. Emergency response: Workers learn how to respond to chemical spills, leaks, and other emergencies involving hazardous chemicals.
