Respiratory Protection Program
This course is designed to teach workers how to use respirators safely and effectively to protect themselves from harmful airborne contaminants in the workplace.
The training course typically covers the following topics:
1. Respiratory hazards: Workers are taught to identify the respiratory hazards in their workplace, such as dust, fumes, gases, and vapors.
2. Types of respirators: Workers learn about the different types of respirators, including air-purifying respirators (APRs) and supplied-air respirators (SARs), and how to select the appropriate respirator for the hazards present.
3. Respirator selection: Workers learn how to select the appropriate respirator based on the type of hazard, concentration of the hazard, and other factors such as facial hair, facial features, and comfort.
4. Respirator use: Workers are trained on how to properly use, wear, and maintain their respirators, including fit testing, seal checking, cleaning, and storage.
5. Respirator limitations: Workers learn about the limitations of respirators and the situations where respirators cannot provide adequate protection.
6. Medical evaluation: Workers are taught about the importance of obtaining a medical evaluation before using a respirator, and how to recognize medical conditions that may prevent them from using a respirator.
